Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a diagnostic imaging procedure that is valuable in providing images of the heart, large blood vessels, brain, organs and soft tissues. There is no exposure to radiation and the patient must lie still for a lengthy period of time. Due to the strong magnetic pull of the equipment, this procedure will not be performed on patients with cardiac pacemakers, ferromagnetic pins, clips, metal shrapnel, plates in the body or who are severely claustrophobic. Upon request, moderate sedation can be provided to assist you with the test.
Where: Come to the main campus and check in at Admissions in the front lobby
What to bring: Physician written order must be presented upon arrival
How to prepare for the procedure: Follow all instructions given to you by your physician. Try to wear clothing without metal buttons, zippers, etc. Leave all jewelry at home. For procedures done on the head or face, the patient should not wear eye makeup. Prior to coming in for the procedure, please notify your physician if you have ever done welding. In the event that you have, special facial x-rays will be done prior to the MRI to check for the presence of metal shrapnel.
