NEW Emergency Department at Eastside Medical Center Opens December 8
December 06, 2011

Snellville, GA December 6, 2011 It is said that first impressions are everything and when it comes to the emergency room in a hospital it is no different. With 60,000 patients each year, the Emergency Department serves as the front door to Eastside Medical Center. The newly renovated and expanded Emergency Department will open its doors on Thursday, December 8 on the hospital’s campus. A ceremony of dedication will be held tomorrow morning, followed by tours of the new facility.
The $12 million project will house 41 private patient treatment rooms, including ten “fast-track” rooms for rapid medical evaluation, nine pediatric urgent care rooms staffed by board certified pediatricians and a dedicated decontamination room. In addition, a sub-wait area with seating and tables was added outside the triage rooms to accommodate guests who are waiting for patients to be taken to an exam room, labs or imaging. The groundbreaking for this project began in August 2010 and was undertaken in three phases so the department could continue to function as renovations were underway. From start to finish, the project took 16 months.
“This expansion and renovation will enhance the flow of our Emergency Department. What this means is we are able to act more quickly and provide even better care for our patients,” said Kim Ryan, CEO. “This expansion is for the citizens of Gwinnett County so we can continue to meet the needs of our growing community.”
